Songs as teaching tools!

Those who think that analyzing popular songs is anything but a frivolous pastime may need to think again.

Master of playback singing

A majority of music lovers like me are learning finer nuances of ‘music’ through film songs only. This means that it is through situations in films, for which the songs are composed, that we connect to the feelings reflected in the songs that linger with us.

Music for eternity

Rahul Dev Burman aka Pancham has an enduring legacy, his musical compositions continue to reign supreme even today amongst all age groups. With over 1600 odd songs to pick from, there is hardly any mood and occasion that may have been left untouched by him through his orchestration. You will agree with me that there is a bit of ‘pancham’ in all of us. Take the ‘pancham test’ yourself to find out.

When it rains, emotions pour

Come rains and emotions pour. Nature’s unique physical manifestation may not have any language of its own, it evokes feelings that hold idioms and expressions of its own. Not many are able to express it though, but some distinct sensations do inflict upon all of us -unbeknowingly renewing life into life processes. No wonder, longing for rains has remained an inbuilt feeling, or an ubiquitous human trait.

The fleeting moment of immense possibilities

I often wonder if we value a ‘moment’ (पल) as much or more than every other aspect of existence! While time does hold due importance, पल disappears before we even think about it. But it is a spur of a moment that separates life from death, and hence immensely valuable.

The 'Spirited' Bollywood songs

Let me put a disclaimer upfront that I am a teetotaller by choice but have no qualms about others indulging in it albeit within civic limits. Not sure why but alcohol consumption has never been a ‘normal’ activity in the Indian society. By default those who consume (rather stealthily), justify it either to escape extreme mental stress or to celebrate ecstatic moments in life. Although perceptions are beginning to change, alcohol consumption remains a social and a cultural taboo.

We are trying to create a platform where our readers will find a place to have their say on the subjects ranging from socio-political to culture and society. We do have our own views on politics and society but we expect friends from all shades-from moderate left to moderate right-to join the conversation. However, our only expectation would be that our contributors should have an abiding faith in the Constitution and in its basic tenets like freedom of speech, secularism and equality. We hope that this platform will continue to evolve and will help us understand the challenges of our fast changing times better and our role in these times.
